Dale Sohlstrom presents Part Two of his ancestors’ immigration story – Leaving Home in Search of a Better Life.

After arriving in the new land, the settlers had to walk hundreds of miles on foot before finding available land. Faced with approaching winter and all the problems associated with that, and little money, Dale details the hardships the immigrants faced in their new land. Among them, getting shelter built before bad weather set in. In their first winter, 19 people lived in a 16 X 20 rustic cabin. And in 1869, that meant no indoor plumbing, including no running water. Howe about walking five miles to your nearest neighbor so you could use their wood cook stove to make bread? These and many other hardships will be discussed during the presentation on February 16th.
