Sankta Lucia Day is celebrated around the world. Lucia was a lovely Christian girl from Sicily who risked her life to bring food to the persecuted Christians who were hiding in the catacombs. Because her tray was so filled with provisions, she needed to put candles in her hair to light the way. There are many different legends surrounding Lucia and how it came to be celebrated in Sweden is a matter of controversy. The Swedish people have come to know Lucia as the one who brought light and food to Sweden during a period of famine and long dark nights of winter. Lucia Day is celebrated in Sweden on December 13. In the morning, it is tradition for the eldest daughter of a household to portray Lucia, dressed in a long white gown, wearing a crown of candles, while serving her family traditional Swedish treats of Saffron buns, pepparkakor and, of course, coffee.

Luciadagen firas runt om i världen. Lucia var en underbar kristen flicka från Sicilien som riskerade sitt liv för att föra mat till de förföljda kristna som gömde sig i katakomberna. Eftersom hennes bricka var så fylld med proviant, behövde hon sätta ljus i håret för att lyssa upp vägen. Det finns många olika legender kring Lucia och varför hon firas i Sverige är kontroversiellt. Svenska folket har lärt känna Lucia som den som förde ljus och mat till Sverige under en period av hunger och långa mörka nätter på vintern. Luciadagen firas i Sverige den 13 december. På morgonen är det tradition att den äldsta dottern i familjen är Lucia, klädd i en lång vit klänning, med en ljuskrona på huvudet, medan hon serverar sin familj traditionella saffranbullar, pepparkakor och naturligtvis kaffe.
