This March, Swedish Cultural Society member Eric Siljendahl will take us on a journey to Dalarna, the storied province in central Sweden often called the cultural heart of the nation.
Last summer, Eric traveled to the region his ancestors once called home. In this presentation, he will share reflections from that visit—exploring the landscapes, traditions, and living heritage that continue to shape Dalarna’s identity today.
Nestled around the sparkling waters of Lake Siljan, Dalarna is known for its deep forests, red-painted cottages, folk costumes, midsummer celebrations, and the iconic red Dala horse. But beyond the familiar symbols lies a region rich in history—where centuries-old traditions remain vibrantly alive, and where many Swedish emigrants once began their journey to America.
Whether your family roots trace back to Dalarna—or you simply cherish Nordic history and culture—this program promises to be a meaningful glimpse into a place that has helped define what “Swedish” means both in Sweden and abroad.
Details of Eric’s presentation are still being finalized, but mark your calendar now for what is sure to be an engaging and visually rich evening of travel, heritage, and connection.
We hope you’ll join us. 🇸🇪
